I've made it back to the land of those people who blog about the things they sew, everyone! It feels nice to be back, excluding the fact that I have to be on my computer. I am not prone to using this thing anymore. What are these buttons for anyway? Okay, I can talk about my spacesuit, I mean my galaxy printed swimsuit, I promise. I made this a couple of weeks ago and already posted it on Kollabora, but I thought I should finally get around to blogging it. Get another thing crossed off my to do list, you know?
I used the Jasmine and Grace patterns by Ohhh Lulu to start off with; I took about an inch total from the top and bottom of the Jasmine pattern and added five inches to the Grace pattern to make it a super high waisted suit. I didn't press anything, instead I edge stitched every seam - I tend to thing that looks nicer. I've been topstitching everything lately, it's beginning to be a problem. For the straps, I attempted fabric covered straps in the beginning, but I was using a different elastic than the one recommended in any tutorial I've seen (and I was impatient and was anything but meticulous) so they looked horrible. I ended up just sewing long strips of black milliskin and turning them inside out, and then just cutting them to whatever size I needed. It may not be the most elegant solution, but it works and I haven't had any issue at all with them being flimsy; there are so many straps in the back keeping everything anchored in its place.
I don't know what else to say about this suit, because it seems like most of the sewing world has been making it's own suits since Heather came out with the Bombshell pattern, but I was really excited to see this project through. I did make a swimsuit last year, but when I put it on this year I realized just how terrible the construction was. I intended to take photos of it for this post, to show just how far I've come over the last year, but I never got around to it.
There are some photos of it from instagram. Not that you can really see all of its issues, but still.
That's all I've got for today you guys, I have a pretty hefty backlog of things that may never actually make it to the blog (photography is a killer), but hopefully I'll have some exciting stuff to show you. Whenever I blog again. Next year. Until then, may all of your days be full of swimsuit lycra and elastic that doesn't make you want to pull your hair out. Unless you're in the southern hemisphere. <33333333
Do you need a new logo? GOOD.
Casa Crafty made herself a Watson bikini and it's brilliant. I'm all about the strappy stuff these days.
If you need any additional swim inspiration (swimspriration? No?) my best friend just sent this blog my way a couple of days ago.
I use sea salt spray for my hair almost daily, so I'm interested to try out this DIY spray. Looks legit.
My stuff is on Paste.
Melody (who usually takes my photos) has started her photography venture. Check it.
